‘Landscape and Memory’ is the new triple album of Steve’s music, released on 18th October 2024 on the Deux-Elles label. Artists include John Williams, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Max Baillie, Thomas Carroll, Zoran Dukic, Aniello Desiderio, SoloDuo, Stephen Farr, the Asaka quartet, and many others.

The first single from Steve’s new triple album Landscape and Memory is out now on the Deux-Elles label, streaming on all platforms. ‘Negroni’ is taken from Cocktail List for two guitars. The guitarists on the recording are Aniello Desiderio and Zoran Dukić.

In June, Artyom Dervoed and the Russian National Orchestra released Steve’s new arrangement of Piazzolla’s Histoire du Tango, for guitar, bayan, strings, and percussion. The album is available on all streaming platforms on the Prima Classic label.
Nicholas Goluses has recorded Steve’s A Concerto of Colours for guitar and wind, with the Eastman Wind Ensemble. It will be released on the Parma Recordings label in the Autumn.
Adam Cicchillitti and Steve Cowan are recording Steve’s Landscape and Memory concerto for two guitars and strings in September with Canadian ensemble Collectif9. The album will be released on the Leaf Music label in February 2025.

Steve turns 60 in 2024 and there are a number of events to mark this landmark birthday. Highlights include a ‘Stephen Goss at 60’ concert at the Royal Academy of Music in London on February 13th, and the release of a triple album in October on the Deux-Elles label (more details soon). He will be be appearing at festivals in the US, the UK, Germany, Italy, and Mexico. The year starts with a trip to Colombia for the premiere of Wynwood Walls for guitar and string quartet.

Giacomo Susani gave the premiere of Steve’s Pierrot, or Harlequin? for solo guitar at the Barco Teatro, Padua, Italy, on 10th November 2023. The piece was commissioned for Giacomo by the Festival Homenaje.

Artyom Dervoed gave the premiere of the revised version of Steve’s Carnival of Venice concerto for guitar and orchestra on 29th October 2023. The performance took place in the hall of the Moscow Conservatory as part of the opening concert of the Frauchi Festival and Competition. Stanislav Malyshev conducts the Open Sound Orchestra.

The album launch for Steve’s Winterbourne Preludes took place at Kings Place, London on 21st October. Steve was commissioned to write the twelve Winterbourne Preludes for Colombian guitarist Francisco Correa, who funded the project through the innovative #AdoptAPrelude campaign. The score is published by Doberman and three of the preludes have been published on the Siccas guitar channel on YouTube. The album was released on all streaming platforms on 13th October 2023.

Joni was commissioned by Guitar Trek who recorded the piece as part of a project celebrating popular song from the last 100 years. On Song was released on the ABC label on October 20th 2023. Joni is based on the music of Joni Mitchell.

Nicholas Goluses has recorded A Concerto of Colours with the Eastman Wind Ensemble. The album will be released in the Autumn on the Albany label.

Verismo was commissioned by Aniello Desiderio, who is now touring the piece after an online premiere for DotGuitar. Verismo is a fantasy for guitar based on themes from 19th and 20th Century Italian operas by Puccini, Verdi, Rossini, and Mascagni. Aniello will record the piece on his next album.

Sheila Arnold and Alexander-Sergei Ramirez gave the premiere of Intermezzi at the Celle Sommerkonzerte, Germany, on 19th August 2022. The piece is based on Schubert Leider, there are 6 movements and the whole collection lasts about 15 minutes. Intermezzi has now been published by Doberman-Yppan.

Steve was composer in residence for the Paganini Guitar Festival in Parma and the Las Seis Cuerdas Festival in Lucca, Italy, in May 2023. There were several performances of his music including the premiere of the Paganini Variations for violin, mandolin, and guitar.

Artyom Dervoed performed Steve’s Albéniz Concerto with the Armenian National Philharmonic Orchestra in the Aram Khachaturian Concert Hall, Yerevan, Armenia, on 28th March 2023.

Wynwood Walls was commissioned by Mesut Özgen for the 2023 Miami GuitART Festival with funding from the National Endowment for the Arts. The concerto is scored for guitar, strings, and percussion and received its premiere on February 23rd 2023 as part of the festival. Wynwood Walls is based on 20th and 21st century artworks, which give their titles to the nine sections.

The Gitarrenpreis “Stephen Goss” took place in Essen, Germany from 16th to 18th February 2023 as part of the Internationales Folkwang Gitarrenfestival. Competitors will play one of Steve’s Winterbourne Preludes as the set piece.

Zoran Dukić has recorded Cinema Paradiso for the Guitar CoOp label. The EP was released on 25th November, with the full album Black Bile being launched in December 2022. It is now streaming on various platforms. Films of all six movements have been launched to coincide with the release of the CD (links below). Cinema Paradiso is based on films by Quentin Tarantino, Wim Wenders, Lars von Trier, Francois Truffaut, and Charlie Chaplin.

The most recent performance of the Koblenz Concerto took place on 3rd June 2022 as part of the Koblenz International Guitar Festival. The soloists were SoloDuo (Lorenzo Micheli and Matteo Mela) with the Staatsorchester Rheinische Philharmonie conducted by Pavel Baleff

Steve Cowan and Adam Cicchillitti were the soloists with the Thirteen Strings Chamber Orchestra for the premiere of Landscape and Memory for two guitars and strings. The concert took place on 19th March 2022 as part of the Guitare Alla Grande festival in Ottawa-Gatineau, Canada. Further performances and a recording release are planned for 2023.

Steve’s cello and guitar piece Still Life has been nominated for a prestigious Ivor Novello Award in the chamber music composition category.

Grammy winner David Russell’s recording of Cantigas de Santiago is now available on all platforms on the Azica label. In April David released a film of the piece through the Omni Foundation. The film was made in the 12th century church of Santa María la Blanca, Villalcázar de Sirga, Spain. Cantigas de Santiago is a modern reworking of medieval music associated with the Camino. This ancient pilgrimage route leads to the shrine of St. James in the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela.
